AcupunctureTim Denton was born in Melbourne, relocating to Geelong in 1979 after graduating in Medicine from Monash University. At Geelong Hospital he completed 3 years of residency before travelling through northern India, after which he worked for a year with the Pitjantjatjarra and Ngatatjarra people in Central Australia, learning the value of primary health teams.
Returning to Geelong in 1983 he established his own general practice in North Geelong. In 1998 Tim and family left to work in Maningrida in Central Arnhem Land. Tim qualified as a GP radiologist and set up a radiology service in Maningrida. After 2 ½ years Tim returned to the Torquay near Geelong. From 2002 until 2017 Tim has worked at Surfcoast Medical Centre’s Anglesea Practice. Tim is currently a GP at Kardinia Health where he is also Medical Director.
He is immediate past chair of the West Vic PHN where he continues on the board as a director. He is also immediate past chair of the Kardinia Health (the Geelong Superclinic) Board. Tim worked for 5 years as a GP at Headspace Geelong until 2012. As a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Tim has learnt a lot about governance related to primary health. As a GP he has developed a very pragmatic approach to chronic and complex diseases with nurses at the centre of the team and sophisticated IT support using cdmNet as the foundational online portal.
With extensive knowledge of the management of chronic and complex diseases, mental health and drug and alcohol issues in a primary health setting Tim offers immense experience on innovations from the primary health coal face. With observational tours of UK, Scandinavia and the Netherlands and a regular attender of the Nordic Congress of General Practice, Tim is keen to focus on primary health research through his connections at Kardinia Health, the Western Alliance and frequent discussions with Deakin University’s medical school.
