Rod has a Master’s degree in psychology and is undertaking AHPRA endorsement to practice as a counselling psychologist. He has 10 years’ experience working as a school psychologist providing counselling and assessment (of learning difficulties) to children and adolescents.
Rod works with children and adolescents struggling to cope with emotional and mental distress that prevents them from fully engaging in school and life in general. Rod starts from the notion that all behaviour is communication, so aim to understand the factors underlying the problem. He uses a lot of psycho-education in relation to anxiety and depressive symptoms and the family dynamic. Building a strong therapeutic relationship with the child and their family is crucial for positive change. He utilises “talk” therapy as well as cognitive and behavioural (relaxation) techniques.
Rod is particularly interested in childhood and adolescent development, in anxiety, and in learning difficulties (for which he provides assessment).
